In addition to the University's and College of Engineering's Academic Requirements, Master of Science Degree candidates in the Department of Electrical Engineering must satisfy the following departmental requirements:
Identify a Master of Science Advisory Committee before completion of 9 credit hours of course work. The Advisory Committee shall consist of 3 or more members of whom at least 3 members should have primary appointment in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Complete a Plan of Study that is acceptable to the Advisory Committee with a minimum of 24 (33) credit hours of course work for the thesis (non-thesis) option of which no more than 6 credits are 500-level EE courses and of which no more than 6 credits are special topics. The Plan of Study must be approved by the Advisory Committee, prior to submission for approval to the Chairman of the EE Graduate Policy Committee, upon completion of 9 credit hours of course work and prior to registering for the following semester.
Successfully (no "fail" votes) defend the thesis before the Advisory Committee, or successfully (no "fail" votes) pass the non-thesis option comprehensive oral examination.
Note: students in the Master of Science non-thesis option who fail the comprehensive oral examination may petition the Advisory Committee for a re-examination. One re-examination is permitted. The re-examination may not be scheduled during the same semester as that of the original examination. Students who fail the re-examination will be dismissed from the Master of Science Program.
